Revolutionizing Strawberry Farming with AI and Robotics
An innovative agricultural platform blends Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, and machine learning to reshape and enhance greenhouse farming.
Introduction
Zordi, an innovative AI and robotics-based strawberry greenhouse, represents the future of sustainable and efficient farming. By leveraging advanced robots and artificial intelligence, Zordi seamlessly monitors the growth and health of strawberries. Not only does it keep a vigilant eye on the crop's condition, but it also identifies, harvests, and packs ripe strawberries, ensuring only the best quality produce reaches the market.
My Role: Backend Software and Company Website Redesign
While Zordi had state-of-the-art farming technology, its internal software for crop monitoring and its public-facing website needed a refresh to match its pioneering spirit. With the imminent launch of their product, the Zordi berry, there was a need for a software and web presence that resonated with their brand's cutting-edge ethos.
Backend Software Redesign
The founder highlighted multiple usability concerns in the software, particularly regarding how it displayed information about pests and the health of the plants. Additionally, the visual design was another area of contention, as it did not meet her expectations or preferences. Addressing these issues was vital to ensure the software was functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Original Backend Software
Addressing Visibility and Access Issues
The initial software design presented challenges in accessing plant growth details. Users had to navigate to the bottom of the page and select specific categories like 'pink fruit' or 'baby fruit' to view related information. Compounding this was the issue of the position of the buttons and hard-to-read displayed data. After comprehending the capabilities of their robots, a redesign was undertaken to enhance how the software showcased this information, aiming for clarity and ease of access.
Data Presentation: Introducing Count Metrics
In addition to the redesign, I recommended incorporating a count feature for both plant growth stages and detected pests. This addition would offer users a clear, quantifiable overview at a glance. This new metric, evident in the updated design, provides a snapshot of the crop's health and aids in quicker decision-making based on tangible data.
Streamlining Work Orders: From Side Menu to Front and Center
A Fresh Perspective on Data Display
In the redesign, the work order was shifted from a side menu directly to the homepage, transitioning it to a one-page view. This strategic move ensures that users can quickly initiate and approve work orders after reviewing essential data and information. This enhancement promotes faster action and elevates overall work efficiency.
Rebranding and Web Redesign
For Zordi's company website, a comprehensive redesign was undertaken to align with the upcoming launch of their rebranded product, Zordi Berry, formerly known as Hana Berry. The revamped website reflects the fresh branding and emphasizes the innovative technology behind their berry cultivation. Straightforward navigation, vibrant visuals, and engaging content were integrated to provide visitors with a seamless and informative user experience, ensuring that the brand's unique value proposition was communicated effectively to its target audience.
Key Takeaways
The Zordi project was a journey of blending technology with agriculture. The software and company website redesigns encapsulated Zordi's innovative approach. This venture into a new domain was an opportunity to provide design solutions and a rich learning experience for me. Working with Zordi underscored the importance of aligning design with a brand's mission and the impact of a user-focused approach.
